GTL Installs Payment Kiosks to Improve Operational Efficiency at Michigan’s 36th District Court
Reston, VA (PRWEB) July 07, 2015 -- Global Tel*Link (GTL), a leading provider of technology for the public safety and justice sector, announces that it has supplied payment kiosks to the State of Michigan’s 36th District Court in Detroit. The four payment kiosks, installed in March 2014, help to ease congestion in the court’s payments office, allowing people who need to make payments for civil infractions to make payments automatically with GTL’s secure payment kiosks, without the assistance of court staff.
“GTL does the heavy lifting to ensure that the court can focus on other important tasks,” said John Baker, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and Payment Channels at GTL. “The integration between GTL and the court is seamless. We manage the back office functions of the kiosks, cash pickups, daily reconciliation and the other functions necessary for freeing up court staff.”
The 36th District Court, the largest district court in Michigan, handled over 500,000 cases and nearly $30 million in payments in 2013. Adding the payment kiosks to the courts has allowed more payments to be accepted and has shortened payment lines.
“Time saved by being able to pay immediately is a big benefit for us, and it’s a big benefit for our customers,” said Hon. Nancy M. Blount, Chief Judge of the Michigan 36th District Court “People don’t have to wait. That’s the biggest benefit for the court and for the litigants.”
Expected to take place in the second half of 2015, the kiosks will begin to accept payments for payable misdemeanors, and this service expansion is expected to further shorten overall wait times and reduce confusion.
Payments made via the kiosks are secure because GTL has attained Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) Level 1 compliance, adhering to standards designed to keep cardholder data secure and therefore reduce credit card fraud.
